The role of data and analytics in the healthcare ecosystem

Advanced data analytics and real-time digital support tools are successfully opening up tremendous opportunities to improve health outcomes and manage healthcare costs—and Shawn O’Brien, principal, business intelligence, at TELUS Health had the honour of presenting real-world examples at the Datavore 2019 event in Montreal, Quebec. Datavore is a popular annual event in the data analytics sphere, attended by business executives, IT specialists and consultants representing a wide range of industries.

Presenters and exhibitors educate attendees on the use of data and the application of analytics in the real world, with a focus on current trends and leading-edge practices. O’Brien’s presentation, entitled “The Role of Data and Analytics in the Healthcare Ecosystem,” outlined how TELUS Health is removing silos in the healthcare ecosystem by leveraging various healthcare data points, with the focus on creating and measuring quantifiable health outcomes. O’Brien highlighted some of the applications and services available for healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical companies and health benefit program managers through the TELUS Health Exchange, which draws upon data from more than 11.8 million Canadians, 21,000 physicians and 6,300 pharmacies.
